Biology didn't imitate technology. Technology is still catching up to biology.

Biology is one of the most sophisticated, abundant, and transformative forces on the planet. From it come the essentials of life: the food we eat, the oxygen we breathe, the medicines that protect us, the animals that accompany us, and the natural systems that make our existence possible.

We have long described biology as a powerful technology. But that comparison falls short. Technologies are built by humans; biology preceded every human invention. We didn't design it — biology made us possible.

Biological systems grow, organize, and regenerate without conventional factories. They repair tissue, fight threats, and produce complex molecules with a precision that far exceeds much of today's industry — and they do it sustainably, transforming resources, recycling materials, and constantly adapting. Biology doesn't just produce; it evolves.

While humanity has spent a few thousand years building tools and industries, life has had nearly four billion years to experiment, optimize, and perfect its own systems. For the first time, we have the tools to learn directly from those systems and work with them intentionally.
